Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO Site

On my last day in Iceland, I had just enough time for a quick visit to Thingvellir National Park, near Reykjavik, before returning my rental car and heading for the airport in Keflavik. This site was filled with history, with fascinating stories of community and parliamentary gatherings, judgements and even executions, from hundreds of years ago. The small historic Lutheran church Þingvallakirkja, dates from 1859, but apparently a church has stood at the site since Christianity was introduced in the 11th century.
